I’m on leave this semester, Spring ‘08, so shan’t be teaching. But, I’m looking forward to spending the Fall semester teaching Joyce’s Ulysses. I’ll continue to run courses in Irish language to undergraduate and graduate students here. But I’m particularly excited about a seminar on Flann O’Brien and Irish Modernism I’ll teach in Spring ‘09. I’ve been involved with O’Brien for years now and we have a lot of his personal papers and belongings in our Burns Library collection. Masculinity and Empire Studies are two themes I pursue in my teaching and I’m trying to find room for a course on the history of Irish olfaction to complement a project I’ve been recently working on.
